For Healthcare Professionals

According to Futures Without Violence, in addition to the immediate trauma caused by abuse, domestic violence contributes to a number of chronic health problems including depression, alcohol and substance abuse as well as sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS. Additionally, it often limits the ability of women to manage other chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension. To enhance healthcare systems' response to domestic violence, LCADV has training options to train healthcare providers, domestic violence service providers, HIV/AIDS advocates and social workers on domestic violence against pregnant women and new mothers, and the intersection of domestic violence and HIV/AIDS. LCADV also participates in the Louisiana Department of Health’s Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review Panel.
