Suicide and Domestic Violence: Where Science and Practice Meet

Presenters: Dr. Jacquelyn Campbell is the Anna D. Wolf Chair and a Professor in the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and the National Program Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars Program and Dr. Kate Cerulli is the Director of the Susan B. Anthony Center and the Laboratory of Interpersonal Violence and Victimization (LIVV), and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry, at the University of Rochester

Content: The faculty will review the research demonstrating the links between experiencing domestic violence with increased risk for suicide and suicidality (attempts and ideation) among women in the US and globally, as well as addressing the increased risk for homicide of battered women followed by suicide of a male partner.  Dr. Campbell will include a short presentation of her own research findings among abused African American women related to suicidality and the safety strategies used with those women in response to suicidality.  Dr. Cerulli will discuss the DV suicide hotline project with the National DV Hotline.
