Stalking: Investigating the Crime, Supporting the Victim

Jointly hosted by Iris Domestic Violence Center, LCADV, and the National Stalking Resource Center

Stalking–a dangerous and potentially lethal crime–is often misunderstood, minimized or missed entirely.  This training will address the crime of stalking: prevalence, dynamics, the use of technology to stalk, and the effect on victims. Focused sessions will be provided on the law enforcement response to stalking as well as the intersection of stalking with dating violence and sexual assault.  Participants will be provided with concrete strategies for working with stalking victims, including threat assessment and safety planning.

Louisiana Protective Order Registry Legal Seminar @ Baton Rouge, LA

The LPOR Legal Seminar will:

  • Explain how the protective order registry works.
  • Explain the appropriate use of the mandatory order forms.
  • Identify and discuss state and federal statutes related to court protections for those affected by domestic abuse and dating violence.
  • Disseminate the updated v.7 version of the Guide to the LPOR, the standardized forms, and the related interactive software.

You are invited to join Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault at the Louisiana State Capitol as we advocate for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
We will kick off the day with a short opening ceremony on the capitol steps. Then stop in at the display table in the rotunda to get details on talking points, who your legislators are, and what relevant hearings are occurring where your testimony may make a difference.
